Description

Massive hand carved doors open into an elegant and comfortable microcosm of southwestern lifestyle. Sculpted stairways, T-shaped doors and sandstone walls create the feeling of entering a prehistoric ruin. Huge cactus in terracotta pots stand sentry in public rooms and corridors. Textiles, paintings, carvings and baskets from the Inn's collection represent artists of New Mexico's three cultures - Native American, Hispanic and Anglo. Architects for the Inn of the Anasazi stepped back a thousand years into the mud and stone pueblos of the ancient Anasazi and returned to present day with a pure powerful and elegant design for an extraordinary restaurant and Inn. They explored the ruins and examined artifacts, incorporating elements of Anasazi pottery and stonework in the design of the Inn.
