In this entertaining melding of vintage and contemporary, a row of six detached 19th-century workingmen's houses has been stitched together by an uninterrupted streetside veranda, the spaces in between roofed over and fitted with indoor catwalks and patios. Rooms are witty tributes to the past, with kitschy lamps and paint-by-numbers pictures on the walls, but are also equipped with DVD players and high-speed Internet access. A computer is provided for guests' use, and laptop rentals are also available. Down duvets, bathrobes, and cushy sofas add to guests' comfort. Ask for one of the second-floor king rooms with balcony. Although breakfast is the only meal served, cocktails are available.
