Expert Review: Hilton Hanoi Opera hotel

This hotel opened before the millennium in grand style -- the reproduction colonial exterior is quite stunning and describes an elegant arc around the perimeter of the splendid Opera building. The inside matches the fine facade, with a lobby done in grand scale. Rooms are carpeted in rich, contrasting colors with a unique cushioned wallpaper, subdued lighting, and faux Chinese lacquer cabinetry that fits well. Rooms on the fifth floor havebalconies. Suites offer similar services as standard rooms but are much larger and nicely appointed. Television with satellite service, daily newspaper delivery, voice-mail telephone system, and in-room Internet access keep business travelers up to speed. The hotel also has plenty of features for vacation travelers, like in-house tour services and a concierge. There is fine dining at Turtle's Poem (try the dim sum for lunch), and Café Opera has gourmet sandwiches and baked goods, or you can have a pint at JJ's Sports Bar and catch up on scores or play a game of pool. On the executive floor, business travelers can enjoy the luxury of private check-in, as well as an executive lounge with a bar and snacks. The courtyard pool area is quite lovely.
