This hotel offers one of the best values, as well as some of the best service, on the island. It's not right on the sands, but Reduit Beach, one of St. Lucia's finest, is a 5-minute walk or a complimentary 2-minute shuttle ride away. One of the newest and most up-to-date hotels on the island, Bay Gardens opens onto a large atrium lobby with a designer fountain pool and bamboo furnishings. Joyce and Desmond Destang are among the most hospitable hosts on the island. Their medium-size bedrooms in vivid florals contain a terrace or balcony, and tropical art and accessories. Bathrooms are tiled with a combination tub and shower. Families might want to consider one of the eight apartments, each a self-contained unit with a kitchenette. One child is accommodated without charge. Its international restaurant, Spices, serves some of the island's best hotel food. Look for weekly rum punches, barbecues, Caribbean buffets, and live music on occasion. Did we mention the ice-cream shop?
