The cream of the Lubbock hotel crop, this early 1980s-era Holiday Inn is the city's largest lodging option, located adjacent to the Civic Center smack-dab in the middle of downtown. Well-maintained and comfortable, the rooms are pleasant if unremarkable, with off-white walls and beige furnishings. I like the east tower, six stories of rooms surrounding a wide-open atrium. The suites with north-facing windows are the best -- you'll be greeted every morning by the Buddy Holly statue on the West Texas Walk of Fame below. Other rooms overlook a treed central courtyard.
