Rostock Overview

Rostock is set on a wide and navigable estuary of the Warnow River. Throughout the Cold War, it was the largest and busiest seaport in East Germany, built on a scale to rival Hamburg. The town still bustles with maritime activity, though its importance has declined since reunification. Today, visitors come to Rostock to wander its reconstructed Altstadt, which contains major sections of the town's medieval wall, and to visit the town's museums and churches. Read More
